چکیده

Abstract Introduction Introduction: Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is strongly associated with progressive phenoconversion to an overt synucleinopathy (e.g., parkinsonism). Neurotrauma [i.e., traumatic brain injury (TBI) and posttraumatic stress (PTSD)], increases the odds of RBD diagnosis by ~2.5-fold increased later Parkinson’s Disease (PD), a service-connected illness in Veterans. Thus, neurotrauma are both independently parkinsonism; however, it unclear how influences neurological symptoms exam findings patients RBD. Methods Methods: Participants ≥18 years age overnight polysomnogram-confirmed were enrolled between 8/2018 4/2021 as part North American Prodromal Synucleinopathy (NAPS) Consortium. Standardized assessments for RBD, TBI, PTSD history, well cognitive, motor, sensory autonomic function completed. This sub-study applied cross-sectional, case-control (1:4 ratio) analysis comparing cases (n=24; RBD+TBI+PTSD) controls (n=96; RBD) matched (±2 years), sex, education years). Results Results: reported earlier symptom onset more severe phenotype, anxiety depression, greater frequency hypertension, significantly worse compared participants without neurotrauma. Conclusion Conclusion: case:control study showed that individuals comorbid have outcomes related common features early parkinsonism. Although confirmatory longitudinal studies still ongoing, these results may be sign further/faster progression those Support (if any) Support: NIH R34 AG056639, U19 AG071754, VA RRD 1K2 RX002947, Parkinsons Center Oregon

MAPT association with REM sleep behavior disorder

Idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (IRBD) is a REM sleep parasomnia comprising unpleasant dreams, dream-enacting behaviors, and loss of muscle atonia during REM sleep. Longitudinal studies have demonstrated that because most patients with IRBD develop with time Parkinson disease (PD) and other synucleinopathies including dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) or multiple system atrophy (MSA), IRBD...

Increased Corticomuscular Coherence in Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

The authors hypothesized that if locomotor drive increases along with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), then RBD patients would have greater corticomuscular coherence (CMC) values during REM sleep than at other sleep stages and than in healthy control subjects during REM sleep. To explore this hypothesis, we analyzed beta frequency ra...

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)

Background. REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is parasomnia characterized by dream enactment and enabled by disruption of physiologicalmuscle atonia during REM sleep. Over the past few years, diagnostic criteria and the methods used to confirm diagnosis have been updated. Objective. In this review article, the current knowledge regarding RBD diagnosis and treatment is presented. Methods. A sele...

REM sleep behavior disorder and REM sleep without atonia in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy.

STUDY OBJECTIVE To compare sleep characteristics, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia, and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy (tauopathy), patients with Parkinson's disease (a synucleinopathy), and control subjects. DESIGN Sleep interview, overnight polysomnography, and Multiple Sleep Latency Tests. PATIENTS Forty-five age- and sex-ma...

A Case of REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, Narcolepsy-Cataplexy, Parkinsonism, and Rheumatoid Arthritis

A patient is reported in whom signs and symptoms of REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and narcolepsy have been associated for almost two decades with a late development of parkinsonism and rheumatoid arthritis. A 78-year-old male patient in whom RBD was first diagnosed was followed-up by clinical examination, video-polysomnography, multiple sleep latency test, cerebral magnetic resonance imagin...
